Every student deserves the opportunity to thrive in an international learning environment. For students who are developing their English proficiency, the Academic English Pathway, or AEP, Programme offers a structured and supportive route into international schooling within the Taylor’s Schools network.
Currently offered at Australian International School Malaysia, the AEP Programme helps students build the academic English, confidence, and readiness needed to take their next step in education. While the programme is housed at AISM, it serves as a pathway into the wider Taylor’s Schools network, which includes Garden International School, Nexus International School Malaysia, Nexus International School Singapore, Taylor’s International School Kuala Lumpur, Taylor’s International School Puchong, and Australian International School Malaysia.
A Structured Pathway into International Education
The AEP Programme is designed to give students a soft landing into international school life. The journey begins with a 10-week online programme, where students develop foundational English skills from the comfort of home while gaining early exposure to international school expectations.
Students then progress into a one-year, face-to-face on-campus programme at AISM. This immersive experience mirrors mainstream international schooling, allowing students to strengthen their English while engaging with core academic subjects such as Mathematics, Science, Humanities, and Physical Education.
AEP goes beyond traditional language support. Students develop reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in meaningful academic contexts, helping them apply English across different subjects and classroom situations. With personalised learning, experienced teachers, structured academic support, weekly progress updates, Homework Club, and access to co-curricular activities, students are supported academically, socially, and personally.
Guided by Language Acquisition Expertise
Ian Smith, Vice President of Language Acquisition at Taylor’s Schools, plays an important role in shaping the vision behind the AEP Programme. In explaining the programme, Ian describes AEP as a methodical and carefully designed pathway that helps students build confidence, understand international school curricula, and transition successfully into mainstream learning.
At the heart of the AEP Programme is a commitment to helping students feel prepared, supported, and confident. By combining language development with academic learning and school-life experiences, the programme gives students the tools they need to participate fully in the classroom and the wider school community.
